This evening, we’re happy to welcome our friends at Twin Cities Streets for People to WBSC for the first in a series of informal StreetsTalks about various facets of transportation and urban design.

Tonight’s event will focus on “open streets” - also known as ciclovias, Sunday Streets, and Summer Streets. Ciclovias started 30 years ago in Bogota, Colombia, which opens 120km of car-free streets every Sunday for cycling, walking, running, dancing, yoga and other active uses. In North America, events have attracted thousands of participants in a variety of cities and contexts, including Chicago, San Francisco, Vancouver, and New York City.

Find out how such events have transformed urban space and helped lead to permanent change in street environments. What kinds of coalitions can form around these events? What goals do they have, and do they succeed? What might this look like in the Twin Cities?

Things will get started at 6pm at WBSC. We hope to see you there!
