DREAM DICTIONARY
An A to Z Guide to Understanding Your Unconscious Mind
by Tony Crisp
Once upon a time we promised to do a regular book review, pulling a new book each week from the WBSC library that you continue to help us build. Then we got very busy with things, but here we are now, with time to read and write on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
This week’s book is not a very substantial one, unless you happen to be interested in the pseudo-science of dream interpretation. And who isn’t, really? You might be scoffing right now at the ridiculous cover on Tony Crisp’s book, but I bet that you still secretly hope that it will help you understand your inner self, just like you hope that your horoscope will predict your future.
Well, if the previous owner of this book is to be believed, we won’t learn very much here. The bookplate reads:
I was given this book in 7th grade. So far it has been entirely unhelpful in understanding my unconscious mind. Hopefully you will have better luck.
Hopefully we will, because like the author says, Dreams can help solve your problems, big and small.
Ever since we opened WBSC we have been trying to solve problems big and small, and also trying understand our collective unconscious mind, the one that said this place was a good idea. It seems only appropriate that we would also have recurring dreams and nightmares. Did you know that a dream can forewarn of future events?
I keep dreaming about airplane crashes, which apparently means that I am suffering from a loss of self confidence or mental equilibrium. Perhaps a breakdown is in the cards? One of my WBSC cohort has a recurring dream about murdering people, which means that her sexuality is repressed or that a bond has been broken. (Sorry Miranda) Colin had a dream the other night that he was talking to Minnesota’s own pop superstar Prince about PARK(ing) Day. This one is not even in the book.
Needless to say, this is not the sort of interpretation that I’d hoped for, but Tony Crisp never promised I would like what I learned from his book. If anyone wants to have their dream interpreted, they can send a brief synopsis of the dream to westbanksocialcenter@gmail.com and I will do the work and will keep it a secret if you want.
Shanai for WBSC
In the future, if any of you want to do a book review from our library of odd volumes please feel free to stop by and grab a book to review. There are lots to choose from.
