Last night WBSC welcomed Ben Jordan, who was visiting with some of his artwork and thoughts about how the creative process of science and art can be interwoven.
An example is this animation that Ben made from a series of drawings like the one above. The patterns represent some mathematical problems that he has been solving. Ben found that when he plotted the answers onto a circle he was able to see patterns that he would have otherwise missed. Bonus: the resulting illustrations are complex and beautiful.
By doing much of this work by hand (drawing hundreds of lines with a ruler and pencil) he was able to understand these equations in new ways, which says quite a lot about the joys of both artistic and scientific problem solving.
