In January, when our friend Jeff Hnilicka spent time as “Someone in Residence” at WBSC, he was often seen carrying a deck of tarot cards with him around the space. When I asked, he told me that he always reads one card before leaving the house, and does a full reading for himself about once every week, just to meditate on all the crazy things he has going on (like many of us, he has a lot going on). When he read my cards, I was surprised at how helpful it was to talk for a few minutes with someone else about a question I would otherwise have left stewing in my own head. Jeff will be trading tarot readings for food and other necessities this Wednesday night at WBSC. If you’re in the neighborhood, bring him something and he’ll tell you what the future has in store. Conveniently, there are a number of businesses in the neighborhood where you can get food or other things to trade. RSVP here or swing by anytime after 6:00PM. S.H.M.

Ok folks, just under one week ‘til MNKINO #3 — get those videos ready! A logistical note: right now we prefer videos submitted as Quicktime files — so if you’re bringing a video, bring it on a thumb drive or burned to a data CD/DVD if you can. That way you don’t have to sit and listen to us tell jokes while the DVD player loads. RSVP on Facebook

Tonight: ARP! Release Party

Tonight the good folks over at ARP! celebrate the release of their tenth issue, Pipe Dreams. They’ve promised music by Zoo Animal and tete a tete, a chance to custom screenprint your copy of the issue, and some dream interpreting.

Those of you who came out for our rent party Friday witnessed a milestone: the opening of the WBSC Transcription Desk. Partygoers dictated letters to Social Center secretaries, who typed, shaped phrases, and ensured the dispatches reached their intended parties. Who got letters? Moms, friends, sworn enemies, the secretly admired… and, if you act quickly, you. We’ve got one mystery letter left, addressed to (Your Name Here). Should it be yours? We’ll send it to the first person who emails westbanksocialcenter@gmail.com with their mailing address.
